Clayface Premieres at Hollywood Legion Theater Ahead of Oct. 23 Opening

The DC Studios film held its world premiere Tuesday night, with director James Watkins describing an extensive audition process for star Tom Rhys Harries.

Clayface held its world premiere on Tuesday night at the Hollywood Legion Theater, ahead of its Oct. 23 opening, according to hollywoodreporter.com. The DC Studios film stars Tom Rhys Harries in the dual lead role of Tom Hagen and Clayface, with Naomi Ackie playing the scientist who performs the experimental procedure on Hagen.

Director James Watkins said he auditioned Harries extensively for the part. Harries said the process was spread over three months and included two long screen tests with Watkins.

Producer Lynn Harris said the project began as a pitch and first draft from Mike Flanagan, who later departed. Hossein Amini wrote another draft, and Watkins came in to direct.

In October 2025, it was reported that Flanagan had to step away for projects including Carrie and The Exorcist: Martyrs. Ackie previously worked with DC star Robert Pattinson when they filmed Mickey 17.
