Clayface Premieres in Los Angeles as Third DC Studios Film

The DC Studios film Clayface held its world premiere at the Hollywood Legion Theater, marking the third official entry in the DC Universe continuity.

Clayface had its world premiere at the Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, according to hollywoodreporter.com. The film is the third official entry in the DC Universe continuity established by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

It is also the first DC film to be released under David Ellison following Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Gunn and Safran said Ellison invited them to continue as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios, and that they shared their long-term DC plans and secrets with him.

Clayface is written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini and directed by James Watkins. Tom Rhys Harries plays the title role, with Naomi Ackie playing a scientist. The film reportedly cost in the $30 million range.

Safran listed the wider DC slate as including the full season of Lanterns, Clayface, Man of Tomorrow in post-production, Batman Part II in production with Steven Soderbergh assisting Matt Reeves, and The People v. Gorilla Grodd in production. Producer Lynn Harris noted Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein are co-chairs of the motion picture group under the new Skydance regime.

Background

Four years ago, Gunn and Safran started telling a bigger DC story. Clayface follows Superman, described as a solid hit, and Supergirl, described as a major fail, in DC Universe continuity. Paramount Skydance acquired Warner Bros. Discovery to form a new mega Skydance entity.
