Darren Aronofsky to Receive Director's Award at 2026 Camerimage

The 34th ToruńCamerimage festival runs Nov. 7-14, 2026, and organizers praised Aronofsky's visual language and sound design.

Darren Aronofsky will receive the Director's Award at the 34th ToruńCamerimage international film festival, organizers announced. The festival is set to run from Nov. 7 to 14, 2026.

In its announcement, Camerimage cited Aronofsky's bold directorial choices, his intense visual language and the close interplay between image and sound in his work, according to hollywoodreporter.com.

Aronofsky's debut feature, the low-budget black-and-white Pi (1998), won the directing award at Sundance and an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. The film marked the start of his collaboration with cinematographer Matthew Libatique, who went on to shoot Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, The Whale and The Fountain (2006).

His latest feature, Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler, was released last year.

Separately from his film work, Aronofsky's AI production studio Primordial Soup launched last year, drawing on Google DeepMind technology. The studio delivered the YouTube shortform series On This Day... 1776, which critics panned, and this summer the venture filed with the SEC for a $15 million equity raise.
