Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies has clarified how Billie Piper's regeneration twist in the season 15 finale came about, according to Screen Rant. Davies said Piper's addition to the finale came from being "stuck in limbo."
At the end of May 2025, the Doctor Who season 15 finale — season 2 of the Disney+ era — concluded with Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor regenerating into a form played by Billie Piper.
Piper previously starred as Rose Tyler, companion to the Ninth and Tenth Doctors, in the early seasons of the Doctor Who revival. She returned in 2013 to play The Moment personified as Rose in the 50th anniversary special.
