DC Lists Batman and Batgirl Among 'Cursed' Couples Costumes
DC's Instagram Halloween lineup pairs Batman with Batgirl alongside Superman and Supergirl and Aquaman with Zatanna.
DC has posted a Halloween couples costume lineup on Instagram that places Batman and Batgirl among what the post labels "cursed" pairings, according to screenrant.com. The image used comic artwork of the two characters.
The same lineup also included Superman and Supergirl, Aquaman and Zatanna, Jimmy Olsen and Lex Luthor, and Hal Jordan with Kerry Kane from HBO's Lanterns.
The Bruce Wayne and Barbara Gordon relationship has a long history on screen. In 2016, the animated film Batman: The Killing Joke depicted the two in a sexual relationship, a departure from the original graphic novel in which Barbara appears only when the Joker arrives at the Gordon residence to shoot her and kidnap Commissioner Gordon. The film, released on July 24, 2016, runs 77 minutes and was directed by Sam Liu from a script by Brian Azzarello.
Barbara Gordon was introduced in Detective Comics #359 in 1967, created for the Batman television show. The Batman and Batgirl romance was later explored across the DC Animated Universe, including Batman Beyond, Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman and Batman: Return of the Joker.
Batman: The Killing Joke is available to stream on HBO Max.
