Safran: DC Animation Slate Far Along, Joker: Laugh Riot Early

DC Studios co-chair Peter Safran says Creature Commandos Season 2 and four other animated projects are creatively far along, while Joker: Laugh Riot remains in early development.

Peter Safran, co-chair of DC Studios, gave an update on the studio's animated series slate, saying that Creature Commandos Season 2, Mister Miracle, My Adventures with Green Lantern, Starfire, and DC Super Powers are creatively far along. He added that Joker: Laugh Riot is in an early phase of development, with scripts being worked on, according to Bleeding Cool.

Safran described the DC animated slate as robust and said that he and DC Studios love the art form of animation.

In February 2025, Safran and fellow DC Studios co-chair James Gunn announced Starfire, My Adventures with Green Lantern, and DC Super Powers as animated series in production from Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios. At that time, the projects were announced with key creative personnel: Jake Wyatt and Stephanie Gonzaga on My Adventures with Green Lantern, with Jessica Cruz as protagonist; Josie Campbell and Brianne Drouhard on Starfire; and Matt Beans and Michael Chang on DC Super Powers.

Earlier this summer, DC Studios announced an animated series adaptation of Absolute Batman and the anime Joker: Laugh Riot, which lists Yasuhuro Aoki as director and Jim Krieg as executive producer. Sam Register recently stepped down as head of Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.
