DC Studios CEOs Optimistic About Warner Bros.-Skydance Merger

James Gunn and Peter Safran said the merger will give them more resources and greater reach for their multi-year DCU plan.

DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran said they are optimistic about the Warner Bros.–Skydance merger, in a red carpet interview tied to the upcoming film Clayface, according to comingsoon.net. Safran said they will have more resources and greater reach to tell the story they began four years ago.

Safran said Skydance CEO David Ellison invited them to continue and that they explained their multi-year plans to him. Gunn said they told Ellison their basic plan long ago, including the DCU's direction from Man of Tomorrow onward. Gunn is currently working on post-production of Man of Tomorrow.

In background, Gunn and Safran began telling a bigger DC story they had planned four years ago. Superman and Supergirl were released from their DC slate, and a full season of Lanterns was released on HBO in 2026. Clayface is set to release on October 23, 2026, and Man of Tomorrow will be released on July 9, 2027.

The Batman II is in production with Steven Soderbergh assisting Matt Reeves and is scheduled for February 18, 2028. The People v. Gorilla Grodd is currently in production.
