Doctor Who Tender Attracts Multiple UK Producer Pitches

BBC Studios has received bids from UK producers to reimagine Doctor Who after Disney's exit, with the winner to be selected in March.

BBC Studios has received pitches from multiple UK producers to reimagine Doctor Who, with the winning pitch to be selected in March, according to Deadline. The new series will premiere on BBC during the 2028/29 season.

Among the producers involved in bidding are Jed Mercurio and his Hat Trick Mercurio indie, World Productions, and STV Studios. STV Studios proposed moving production to Scotland for the first time in the franchise's history.

The tender process was launched after Disney exited the show, prompting rights owner BBC Studios to put the future of Doctor Who out to tender. The pitch deadline has now passed.

In October 2025, it was reported that Disney had exited the series, leading BBC Studios to seek new production partners. Several other UK producers, including A24 UK, Playground, Mammoth Screen, New Pictures, Big Talk Studios, Expectation and Quay Street, have counted themselves out of the process.
