Dolph Lundgren Says He's Done Playing Ivan Drago

Dolph Lundgren says he believes he has played Ivan Drago for the last time, and doubts another Drago family story will happen.

Dolph Lundgren believes he has stepped into Ivan Drago's boots for the last time. In a new interview, the actor said he doubts another story centered on the Russian boxer will happen, effectively closing the book on a character he first played four decades ago.

Lundgren pointed to where the franchise's attention now sits, saying MGM is busy with Michael B. Jordan and Creed IV. That project is currently in development, leaving little room for a Drago-led film.

He also revealed that a Drago family story was once in the works. According to Lundgren, Florian Munteanu — who played Drago's son Viktor — wanted to do another chapter, and a script was developed, but Lundgren said it was not great.

Drago debuted in Rocky IV in 1985 and returned decades later in Creed II. He did not appear in Creed III, which was released in 2023.

The franchise is expanding elsewhere: the Prime Video spinoff series Delphi, set at the Delphi Boxing Academy in Los Angeles, is upcoming, with Michael B. Jordan as executive producer and Sylvester Stallone reportedly not involved.
