Edinburgh Film Festival Sets 80th Edition for August 2027

The festival will run Aug. 12-18, 2027, with submissions opening in January, as Edinburgh's August festivals mark eight decades.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival will hold its 80th edition from Aug. 12 to 18, 2027, the festival announced. Submissions for the edition open in Jan. 2027, according to Variety.

In 2027 the festival joins the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Edinburgh International Festival in celebrating eight decades. The 2027 edition will be the festival's fourth since its revamped iteration.

The festival was revitalised in 2024 under CEO and festival director Paul Ridd and festival producer Emma Boa.

The 2026 edition featured a programme made up of 60% world premieres across four venues in the city, and saw a 35% increase in admissions on 2025. It included a sold-out Trainspotting anniversary event at Leith Theatre with live commentary from the production team, including Ewan McGregor and Ewan Bremner, a club night DJ'd by Irvine Welsh and Darren Emerson, and the inaugural U.K. Film Conference with a keynote from BFI CEO Ben Roberts.
