Escape from Chicago Comic Expands Snake Plissken's Story
Mad Cave Studios launches Escape from New York: Escape from Chicago, set between the films, as Zack Snyder's remake moves forward.
Mad Cave Studios has released Escape from New York: Escape from Chicago #1, a new comic that slots between John Carpenter's original film and its sequel. The story sends Snake Plissken into Chicago, which has been transformed into a sprawling prison.
In the comic, Snake is hired to extract a young rebel named Maya, the daughter of old allies, from the city. Writer Kyle Higgins has described the setup as The Rock meets Children of Men.
Snake Plissken's Big Screen Future
Meanwhile, Zack Snyder is developing a remake of Escape from New York as his next project. Snyder has said the film will still take place in 1997 and will touch on many of the same themes as Carpenter's original. No actor has been cast as Snake Plissken yet.
The remake has been in the works since 2007, when it was envisioned as a star vehicle for Gerard Butler. Directors Len Wiseman, Robert Rodriguez and Leigh Whannell were previously attached at various points.
Before Kurt Russell landed the role of Snake, producers considered Charles Bronson and Tommy Lee Jones. As reported by screenrant.com, the new comic arrives as interest in the franchise continues.
