The road to air was a long one. In 2015, Port and Wiseman originally wrote the pilot for Eternally Yours. In 2019, Ed Weeks first read the Eternally Yours script for the podcast Dead Pilots Society. Seven years later, the script resurfaced, and CBS greenlit the project after the success of Ghosts.

Port and Wiseman's original pilot sat unproduced for years before the podcast reading drew fresh attention to the material. The network ultimately moved forward with the project as part of its comedy slate.
