European Film Academy Unveils First Community Award Winners
Beki Probst, Marin Karmitz and Sandra den Hamer will receive the European Film Academy's new Community Award in Athens in January 2027.
The European Film Academy has named Beki Probst, Marin Karmitz and Sandra den Hamer as the first recipients of its new Community Award for an Outstanding Contribution to European Film Culture.
The award will be presented during the European Film Awards weekend in Athens in January 2027. The trio will receive the honor on January 15 at the Welcome Night gala dinner held at the Acropolis Museum.
Probst founded the Berlinale's European Film Market in its current form in 1988 and managed it into 2014. Karmitz founded mk2 film and launched mk2 Productions in 1967.
Den Hamer was director of the Netherlands Filmmuseum in Amsterdam from 2007 to 2023. She also directed the International Film Festival Rotterdam from 1996 to 2007 and served as interim executive director at the Netherlands Film Fund from 2023 to 2026.
