Fan Bingbing Brings Wayne Wang Film to Busan, Warns on AI Microdramas
Fan Bingbing presented Wayne Wang's 'Diary of a Mad Old Man' in Busan's A Window on Asian Cinema strand and gave a Carte Blanche talk on 'The Handmaiden.'
Fan Bingbing appeared at the Busan International Film Festival on Thursday, presenting Wayne Wang's "Diary of a Mad Old Man" in the festival's A Window on Asian Cinema strand, according to Variety.
At the same press conference, Fan presented Ivan Tan's short "She Said," which had its world premiere in the Wide Angle section's Asian Short Film Competition.
Fan told reporters that young people in China "aren't being fed very well" when it comes to the screen content they consume, referring to AI-generated microdramas. She cited Lee Chang-dong's "Possible Love" as an example of work that depends on human performance, saying it cannot be replicated by AI.
A Carte Blanche selection and a third Busan visit
Fan also gave a special talk following a screening of Park Chan-wook's "The Handmaiden," her selection for the festival's Carte Blanche program. She said it was her third visit to the Busan International Film Festival.
Fan said she first watched "The Handmaiden" 10 years ago, and that she had to seek out a way to see it because it was never released in China. In 2017, she served alongside Park Chan-wook on the Cannes jury.
