Disney's Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 no longer back-to-back, Jared Bush says

Disney's Head of Animation said the team wants the third film to stand as a complete story before work moves on to the fourth.

Disney's Head of Animation Jared Bush confirmed that Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 will no longer be released back-to-back as originally planned, according to collider.com. The change is intended to let the third film stand on its own.

Bush said the two films were initially planned for release close together with a quick turnaround, but that approach has been dropped. The team, he said, wants Frozen 3 to stand as a complete, fulfilling story before moving on to Frozen 4.

He also said the emotional journey of the characters matters more to him than plot when the films are being planned.

Frozen 3 is due in theaters on November 24, 2027, with Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff returning. Bob Iger announced in an earnings call that Frozen 3, Zootopia 2 and Toy Story 5 were in development, and it was confirmed in the same year that Frozen 4 was on the way. In 2024, writer and co-director Jennifer Lee signed on to return for both films, and at D23, details shared about Frozen 3 included Anna and Kristoff's wedding, Olaf's new girlfriend and a new villain.
