Amazon MGM Boards Animated 'Game of Pets' from Aaron Blabey
Rideback and Foundation Media Partners are developing the adaptation of Blabey's middle-grade book series, with Blabey executive producing.
An animated feature based on Aaron Blabey's middle-grade book series Game of Pets is in development for Amazon MGM Studios, with Rideback and Foundation Media Partners teaming to bring the books to the big screen, according to Deadline.
Rideback co-CEOs Jonathan Eirich and Michael LoFaso are producing, alongside Foundation Media's Patrick Hughes. Blabey will executive produce with Rideback's Nick Reynolds.
The series begins with Game of Pets: The Boy Who Knew Too Much, published by Macmillan Children's Publishing Group. The story follows Griff, an 11-year-old boy with allergies, who learns from a talking axolotl named Bob that he may be the only one who can save the world.
Blabey's Bad Guys books were previously adapted into a two-film DreamWorks Animation franchise that grossed close to half a billion dollars worldwide; Foundation Media Partners was behind that franchise. In 2025, Rideback produced the live-action Lilo & Stitch, which grossed over a billion dollars and is getting a sequel.
Blabey has more than 60 million books in print globally. His Thelma the Unicorn was adapted by Netflix, with the author serving as executive producer.
