George R.R. Martin presented Zahn McClarnon with the Visionary Award at the Santa Fe International Film Festival, and used the moment to call for awards recognition for the actor. According to screenrant.com, Martin said he is furious that McClarnon has not been nominated for an Emmy yet.

The series, based on Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn and Chee books, premiered on AMC on June 12, 2022, and holds a 100% critics' score. It has never been nominated for an Emmy Award, nor by the Golden Globes.
