Godzilla Minus Zero Gets R Rating, First in Franchise
Toho's Godzilla Minus Zero is rated R and is the first Japanese production shot for IMAX, with a new D-Box poster released.
Toho has released a new D-Box poster for Godzilla Minus Zero, the upcoming sequel from director Takashi Yamazaki. The film is rated R, the first time a Godzilla film has received that rating.
The studio also published an official synopsis for the film. According to Bleeding Cool, Godzilla Minus Zero will be the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX and brings back stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe. It is scheduled to open on November 6, 2026.
The rating marks a departure for the long-running series. Godzilla Minus One, the previous entry, was the 30th film in the franchise in Japan and won more than 50 year-end awards, including an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It grossed over $110 million worldwide.
Toho previously announced that Yamazaki would return to write and direct the sequel. No plot details beyond the official synopsis have been released.
