Grey's Anatomy Spin-Off Set in Rural Texas for 2026-2027
Showrunner Meg Marinis says the untitled series, co-created with Shonda Rhimes, will carve its own path from the flagship drama.
The upcoming Grey's Anatomy spin-off is set at a rural West Texas medical center and is scheduled to premiere during the 2026-2027 season, showrunner Meg Marinis told The Hollywood Reporter.
Marinis, who co-created the untitled series with franchise creator Shonda Rhimes, said the show will carve its own path rather than follow the flagship drama's template. She is writing the series with Rhimes.
Ellen Pompeo will executive produce the new series while continuing her role on the flagship show. Marinis also confirmed that the flagship series has no end in sight.
A franchise with room to grow
Grey's Anatomy Season 23 premiered Thursday on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu. The franchise previously expanded with Private Practice and Station 19; Marinis described both as successful shows.
