Centineo: Netflix's Gundam film is a space-set Romeo and Juliet
Noah Centineo says the live-action Gundam movie is a big action romance in the Universal Century timeline. Netflix has not set a release date.
Noah Centineo has revealed new details about Netflix's live-action Gundam film, describing it as a big action romance space movie and a non-Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet in space. He shared the comments on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
Centineo also said the film will take place in the Universal Century timeline. An early official synopsis describes a high-stakes race across the stars that could define the fate of humanity.
The cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Noah Centineo, Jason Isaacs, Michael Mando, Jackson White, Shioli Kutsuna, Nonso Anozie, Javon Walton, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Ida Brooke and Gemma Chua-Tran. Jim Mickle directs.
Filming on the project wrapped in July, but Netflix has not set a release date.
Long development and other Gundam projects
The live-action Gundam film has been in development in some form since 2018. Concept art released in 2021 showed the RX-78-2 Gundam suit while Jordan Vogt-Roberts was attached as director; he was later replaced by Jim Mickle.
Separately, a new animated series, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, is set for release in 2027, and a game set in the same universe as the show, Gundam Rogue Orbit, will be released next year.
