IMAGICA says DCP cinema distribution tops 300 theatres in Japan

The service has passed 300 compatible theatres nationwide, with operator Cinemaconnect running network delivery of features, trailers and ads.

IMAGICA Entertainment Media Services announced that the number of theatres compatible with its Digital Cinema Package (DCP) theatrical distribution service has surpassed 300 nationwide in Japan. The service is operated by Cinemaconnect, according to gamebiz.jp.

According to the announcement, the DCP distribution service is built to securely and efficiently deliver main features, trailers and cinema advertisements to theatres via network. It runs as a delivery environment that complements conventional physical distribution.

Since its establishment in 2023, Cinemaconnect has worked to build a secure distribution infrastructure for the film industry and to provide a convenient digital cinema delivery service.

The company said it will contribute to the development of the film industry by further expanding compatible theatres and providing more convenient services.

Conventional delivery to cinemas has centred on physical shipping, which posed issues such as delivery and return costs, delivery-date fluctuation risk due to weather, and the effort of shipping and returns.

IMAGICA GROUP, the parent company, was founded in February 1935 and delisted in September 2025 through an MBO.
