JioStar to End Koffee With Karan With Ninth and Final Season
The talk show closes after 22 years and 161 episodes, with JioStar saying it is ending on its own terms while still on top.
JioStar has announced that its talk show Koffee With Karan will end with a final ninth season, bringing the programme to its 22nd year, according to deadline.com. The series has run for eight seasons and 161 episodes since it began in 2004 on Star World.
Alok Jain, head of Hindi and English entertainment business for streaming, TV and studios at JioStar, said the decision was to close the show on the company's own terms while it is still at the top of its game.
Unscripted slate shifts to originals
Jain said JioStar's unscripted development pipeline is roughly 70% homegrown originals and 30% global IP. As part of that slate, JioHotstar is launching a TV spin-off of the 2012 film Student of the Year this month.
The company's unscripted output has been running at scale: in the 12 months prior to the publication of the figures, JioStar's unscripted shows drew one billion viewers and over 460 billion minutes of watch time. Last year, Bigg Boss recorded 9.32 billion votes and 43 million live chats.
Splitsvilla is now in its sixteenth season and Bigg Boss is in its 20th local run.
