J.J. Abrams Sets Sci-Fi Film 'The Great Beyond' for October 1, 2027
J.J. Abrams will direct the original sci-fi film 'The Great Beyond,' starring Glen Powell, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jenna Ortega, on October 1, 2027.
J.J. Abrams is returning to the director's chair for a new sci-fi film. The Great Beyond is set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, marking Abrams' first directing effort since 2019.
The project is an original story, not an adaptation or a sequel. Abrams will direct from his own screenplay, though plot details remain under wraps.
The cast is led by Glen Powell, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jenna Ortega. Their roles have not been disclosed.
Abrams last directed Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. That same year, he signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros., which was re-upped in 2024 with a more limited scope. He is also known for creating the sci-fi TV series Alias, Lost, and Fringe.
