The audiobook follows an updated and expanded hardcover edition of Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In that was released in 2025. The book was originally published in 1987 and collects Briggs' first columns for The Dallas Times Herald.
Briggs has been a fixture in movie hosting for decades. He hosted Joe Bob's Drive-in Theater on The Movie Channel from 1986 to 1996, then hosted the TNT series MonsterVision from 1996 to 2000. Since 2018 he has hosted The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder.
The announcement arrives alongside two other projects tied to Briggs. Dynamite Entertainment is reviving the MonsterVision brand for a comic book series, MonsterVision Featuring Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy Issue #1, arriving in December 2026, and the Shudder original special Joe Bob's Halloween House Party airs October 23.
