Korea, Italy Producers Bodies Sign Co-Production MoU at Busan

The Producers Guild of Korea and CNA Cinema e Audiovisivo will exchange funding information and hold yearly meetings in both countries.

The Producers Guild of Korea (PGK) and Italy's CNA Cinema e Audiovisivo signed a memorandum of understanding on co-production at the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM), according to Variety.

The MoU was signed at the Italian Pavilion. PGK President Lee Dong-ha and CNA national vice president Francesco Lattarulo signed for their respective organizations.

Under the agreement, the two bodies will serve as contact points for joint productions and share information on public funding available to producers in each country.

They will also hold yearly meetings, showcases and business-to-business sessions in Korea, Italy and at markets including ACFM and Rome's Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo.

The same morning at ACFM, PGK signed a separate co-production MoU with the Sakha Filmmakers Association.

Earlier ties

Italy and South Korea already have a film co-production accord in place at government level. In 2023, CNA brought Italy's government to ACFM, which resulted in the country taking its own pavilion at the market from 2024. Since the pandemic, PGK has struck MoUs with the Canadian Media Producers Association, the Hong Kong Movie Production Executives Association, the Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI) and Brazil's Audiovisual Industry Union (SIAESP).
