Lanterns Showrunner Explains Why John Stewart Never Wore the Suit in the Season 1 Finale
Chris Mundy said on The Ringer-Verse podcast that costume designs for John Stewart were developed alongside Hal Jordan's suit, but the finale sent Stewart flying in civilian clothes.
Chris Mundy, showrunner of Lanterns, said the series deliberately left John Stewart without his Green Lantern costume in the Season 1 finale, according to comingsoon.net. Mundy explained the decision on The Ringer-Verse podcast.
Mundy said the production had already developed costume designs for Stewart while it was working on the Hal Jordan suit worn by Kyle Chandler. In the finale, Stewart takes flight in civilian clothes rather than the Green Lantern uniform.
Across the season, Stewart worked alongside Hal Jordan as an inexperienced recruit investigating a murder in the American heartland. In the finale, after Hal Jordan's death, Stewart delivered a modified oath acknowledging fear alongside willpower instead of receiving a formal induction into the Green Lantern Corps.
Jordan had reached an agreement with Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner allowing Jordan to handle extraterrestrial threats while Stewart remained on Earth as an independent protector.
The eight-episode season was developed by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and comic book writer Tom King. Stewart's eventual return in DC Studios' Man of Tomorrow could show the costume Lanterns kept off-screen.
