Lanterns Creators Clarify John Stewart's Status After Finale
Tom King and Chris Mundy say John Stewart is not fully a Green Lantern anymore and wields an unsanctioned lantern containing fear.
Tom King and Chris Mundy, the creators of Lanterns, clarified John Stewart's status after the season 1 finale, stating he is no longer fully a Green Lantern, according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The clarification was reported by denofgeek.com.
In the finale, John Stewart takes Hal Jordan's old ring, charges it on Sinestro's lantern, and swears an oath. King and Mundy said Stewart now uses an unsanctioned lantern that contains yellow and fear. Mundy described Stewart's oath as a remix, different from the oaths recited by other Green Lanterns.
Stewart also tells Guy Gardner that he will not be part of the Green Lantern Corps and that the Corps is not welcome on Earth.
Background
The developments echo the 1994 storyline Emerald Twilight, in which Hal Jordan became Parallax and destroyed the Green Lantern Corps, leading to Kyle Rayner receiving a ring. Aaron Pierre and Nathan Fillion will return as John Stewart and Guy Gardner in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow.
