DC Studios' Lanterns Season 2 Not Yet Greenlit, Safran Says
DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran confirmed that a second season of Lanterns depends on HBO and the creative team finding a worthy successor.
DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has confirmed that Lanterns Season 2 has not been greenlit. In an interview with comingsoon.net, Safran said a second season would depend on whether HBO, DC, showrunner Chris Mundy and the team feel they have a worthy successor to the first season.
Safran pointed to Aaron Pierre's John Stewart as an example of television launching heroes ahead of their film appearances. Pierre plays John Stewart in Lanterns, and the character is also set to appear in Man of Tomorrow, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
Meanwhile, DC Studios has several other projects moving forward. The People v. Gorilla Grodd is currently in production, while Creature Commandos Season 2, Mr. Miracle, My Adventures with Green Lantern, Starfire and DC Superpowers are all deep into creative development. Tom King wrote all eight episodes of the Mr. Miracle adaptation solo, with Josh Hutcherson voicing Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis playing Big Barda.
Absolute Batman and a Joker anime remain in earlier stages, with scripts still in progress.
