The Lincoln Lawyer Adds Cobie Smulders as Lead for Final Season

Netflix's legal drama returns in March 2027 with Smulders as original character Emi Finch, whose own spinoff is in development.

Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer will return for its fifth and final season in early 2027, expected in March 2027, with Cobie Smulders joining the series as its new protagonist, Artemisia "Emi" Finch, according to screenrant.com.

Finch is an original character created for the television series and does not appear in Michael Connelly's novels. In the show she is portrayed as Mickey Haller's long-lost sister. Haller, the series lead for its first four seasons, is played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.

The fifth season adapts Connelly's 2023 novel Resurrection Walk. In the book, Haller works alongside his half-brother Harry Bosch, but the character was replaced in the adaptation because Netflix does not hold the rights to Harry Bosch.

At least one season 5 episode will serve as a backdoor pilot for a spinoff series centered on Finch. That spinoff is in development at Netflix with David E. Kelley continuing as executive producer and has no title yet. Filming on season 5 has wrapped.

Connelly's characters across platforms

The Lincoln Lawyer has run for five years and 50 episodes across its first seasons. Season 4 was based on Connelly's novel The Law of Innocece, and the author published Resurrection Walk in 2023. Elsewhere, Prime Video's Bosch: Legacy ended its final season and set up the spinoff Ballard, and the platform is making a Bosch prequel titled Start of Watch. HBO is adapting a series around Connelly's character Detective Sergeant Stilwell.
