Magneto has been depowered in DNX, Marvel Comics' crossover between the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Using his magnetic abilities now endangers his own body, leaving the longtime mutant leader without the powers that defined him.
The change follows a brutal encounter with the Chairman, who beat Magneto close to death in Jed MacKay's X-Men #36. The Chairman extracted Magneto's blood, cerebrospinal fluid and bone marrow during the attack.
Beast approaches Reed Richards for help, asking him to both heal Magneto and restore his powers. Reed agrees to the healing but refuses to bring the powers back, comparing the idea to building a weapon.
Reed's reluctance comes despite Magneto's recent history. The Master of Magnetism has not acted as a villain for several years and fought alongside Iron Man against Feilong's Sentinels during Fall of X.
