Manganiello Still Hopes to Revive Cancelled Dragonlance Series

The actor told IGN that leadership changes, including Michael Lombardo's HBO departure, stalled the Dungeons & Dragons adaptation he worked on for about five years.

Joe Manganiello said in an interview with IGN that he has not given up on his live-action Dragonlance TV series, a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation that was scrapped. No official revival has been confirmed, and according to screenrant.com there are no official plans for a Dragonlance show at the time of publication.

Manganiello said the project stalled because of changes in leadership, including the departure of former HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. In an earlier period, Lombardo had recruited Manganiello to develop a Dungeons & Dragons series aimed at rivaling hits like Game of Thrones, and the adaptation was confirmed cancelled in 2024.

The actor said he worked on the adaptation for around five years without securing the financial support needed to continue. He also pointed to other people who have shown interest in reviving the scrapped series.

Manganiello praised Dan Ayoub, president of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Games, and expressed enthusiasm about working with him. Manganiello is known for roles in Justice League, True Blood and Netflix's One Piece, and serves as Chief Creative Officer of D&D Icons.
