Marvel Unveils First Look at Midnight Spider-Man #1

Marvel Comics has released a first look at Midnight Spider-Man #1, a new series that reimagines Peter Parker's origin story within the Midnight Universe. The preview offers a portion of that origin, which takes a darker turn than the classic tale.

In this version, a young Peter Parker returns from vacation to discover his pet dog dead and decomposed, with a spider crawling out of its eye socket. Before he gains any superpowers or experiences the death of Uncle Ben, this Peter learns a lesson in power and responsibility by failing to lock a door in his house.

The issue is written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, with art by ScieTronc and Neeraj Menon. Midnight Spider-Man #1 will be available on October 7 from Marvel Comics.

The Midnight Universe has previously offered twisted takes on other Marvel characters. In October 2025, Midnight Fantastic Four #1 saw Reed Richards expelled from college, while Midnight X-Men #1 featured a vampiric Storm biting Jean Grey's neck. Other alternate-reality Spider-Men include Peter Parquagh, the Spider-Man of Earth-311, who gained his powers in the 17th century after a dimensionally displaced spider bit him while he served as an assistant to royal spymaster Sir Nicholas Fury, and Peter Parker of Earth-90214, the Spider-Man Noir, who received his powers through supernatural means after breaking open a smuggled artifact containing a cluster of mystical spiders and experiencing a vision of a 'Spider-God'.
