Nick Curwin Retires From Matisse; Scarlett Ewens to Lead Solo

Nick Curwin, founder of Dragonfly and The Garden, is retiring from indie incubator Matisse, which co-founder Scarlett Ewens will now run alone.

Nick Curwin, the founder of British production houses Dragonfly and The Garden, is retiring from the indie incubator Matisse, the company has confirmed. Matisse will now be run solely by co-founder Scarlett Ewens.

Curwin will remain with Matisse until the end of the year to ensure a smooth handover. Ewens will continue working alongside creative director Edwina Silver.

Curwin's career includes building two of the UK's most prominent unscripted producers. He founded Firefly, now Dragonfly, and later The Garden, which produced hits including Ambulance and Squid Game: The Challenge. He also helped sell Dragonfly to Shine Group and The Garden to ITV Studios.

Curwin and Ewens founded Matisse seven years ago. The incubator has backed indies including Dan Grabiner's Orchard Studios and SNL UK lead producer James Longman's Jolly Octopus.

The transition leaves Ewens at the helm of a company with a portfolio of backed labels as it looks to its next phase. Deadline first reported the news.
