Paramount Pictures began streaming a new trailer titled "The Love of Street Fighter" for its live-action Street Fighter film on Friday. The trailer features the film's actors discussing the franchise alongside behind-the-scenes footage from the production.
The film is scheduled to open in theaters on October 16.
The project has had a long road to the screen. Legendary Entertainment acquired the film and television rights to Street Fighter in April 2023, and in December, Paramount Pictures and Legendary signed a multi-year distribution deal, with Street Fighter as the first film under that agreement.
Sony Pictures was previously set to distribute the film for a March 20, 2026 release before removing it from its calendar in March 2025. Kitao Sakurai directed the shoot in Australia, which began in August 2025. Danny and Michael Philippou were initially attached to direct but left to focus on Bring Her Back.
The Street Fighter franchise has a long history in live-action and animation, including the 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li in 2009, and the Machinima series Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist in 2014 and Street Fighter: Resurrection in 2016. The animated film Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie adapted Super Street Fighter II in 1994. On the game side, Street Fighter 6 launched in June 2023, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version following in June 2025.
