Netflix and the BBC announced in October 2025 that a Peaky Blinders sequel series is in development, and the project has now added two new names to its cast. Charlie Heaton and Lashana Lynch have joined the sequel series, which began filming in March.
The show is set in 1953 and follows the aftermath of World War II in Birmingham. Jamie Bell will play Duke Shelby, the new lead character of the franchise. Barry Keoghan played Duke in the film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, in which Tommy Shelby is mortally wounded and Duke becomes the new Rom Baro and leader of the Peaky Blinders.
Cillian Murphy is an executive producer on the sequel series but will not appear on screen as Tommy Shelby. Steven Knight, who created the original series, is among the entities tied to the franchise. The casting news was reported by screenrant.com.
What the sequel looks like so far
With Heaton and Lynch on board, the series continues to build out its ensemble around Bell's Duke. The 1953 Birmingham setting places the story roughly three decades after the original show's post-World War I beginnings.
