Davidson plays Vince, a wounded veteran of the war in Afghanistan. To prepare for the role, he gained 15 pounds of muscle.
The film marks a shift for Davidson, who first broke through as a cast member on Saturday Night Live in 2014 at age 20, becoming one of the youngest performers ever to join the show.
He went on to star in his own Judd Apatow-helmed biopic, The King of Staten Island, at 26, and later created and starred in the TV series Bupkis, based on his life.
Davidson's father, a firefighter, died in the line of duty on 9/11 when Davidson was 7.
