Prada Debuts Hand-Drawn Holiday Campaign With Animator John Pomeroy
The campaign, Drawing Prada: Animated by Hand, mixes live action with 2D animation and includes short films and still images.
Prada has launched a holiday campaign titled Drawing Prada: Animated by Hand, built around hand-drawn 2D animation directed by veteran animator John Pomeroy, according to cartoonbrew.com. The campaign includes short films and still images.
The ads combine live action with classic 2D animation, showing the human cast in illustrated winter landscapes with woodland creatures. Pomeroy assembled a team of traditional animators for the project, and lead animator Tom Bancroft is quoted in a behind-the-scenes film.
Glen Luchford handled photography and direction, designing lighting and perspective to match the illustrated environments. Ferdinando Verderi served as the campaign's creative director.
From Disney to Don Bluth
Pomeroy began his Disney career in 1973, animating on Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too under Frank Thomas. He later co-founded Don Bluth Productions with Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, and returned to Disney, where he supervised animation of John Smith in Pocahontas. His background also includes the live-action/animation hybrid Pete's Dragon.
Fashion houses have turned to traditional animation before: in 2022, Givenchy released a 101 Dalmatians spot overseen by animator Eric Goldberg, and in 2025 a Scandinavian recycling PSA was marketed by artists inspired by classic 2D feature animation.
