ProSiebenSat.1 to Unify Streaming Across Five Markets in Q1

CEO Marco Giordani said the single platform will cut spending while improving technology, and that RTL's Sky Deutschland deal will barely affect Joyn.

ProSiebenSat.1 Media will move to a single streaming platform across all five of MediaForEurope's markets in the first quarter of next year, CEO Marco Giordani said at Munich Media Days, according to Deadline.

Giordani said the unified approach means spending less while getting better technology. He added that cost sharing is the easiest part of the plan, and that it also brings revenue benefits.

He also addressed the competitive landscape, saying RTL's focus on subscription streaming means its takeover of Sky Deutschland would have little impact on ProSieben. The company's Joyn service is advertiser-funded and free.

MFE's push for one European service

In July, MFE announced plans to combine the strongest parts of its streaming services in Italy, Germany, Spain and Portugal into one unified European service. MFE, the Berlusconi family-owned parent formerly known as Mediaset, acquired a controlling stake in ProSieben last year, and Giordani was installed as ProSiebenSat.1 CEO a year ago, replacing Bert Habets.

RTL took over Sky Deutschland earlier this year.
