Radiance Films Acquires Eight Taiwanese Classics for 2027 Releases

Radiance Films has picked up eight Taiwanese classics from the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute, with releases planned for 2027.

Radiance Films has acquired eight Taiwanese classics from the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute for theatrical and home entertainment releases in 2027. The deal was unveiled at Lyon's International Classic Film Market on Thursday, according to Variety.

The eight titles are A Time to Live and a Time to Die, Dust in the Wind, Rebels of the Neon God, Vive L'Amour, The River, In Our Time, Kuei-Mei, a Woman and The Dull-Ice Flower. The Dull-Ice Flower, directed by Yang Li-kuo, will be released in both the U.K. and U.S., while the other seven titles are U.K.-only acquisitions.

Radiance plans individual releases and collections, including a Taiwanese New Wave set and a trio of Tsai films. The label also plans an extended theatrical rollout beginning with screenings at London's Garden Cinema later this month.

The acquisition adds to a growing international profile for Taiwanese cinema restoration. In 2014 and 2015, 4K restorations of King Hu's Dragon Inn and A Touch of Zen screened at Cannes Classics. TFAI has restored 110 titles since 2013 and now completes around a dozen restorations a year.

The Dull-Ice Flower was identified in a 2023 public survey as one of Taiwan's most popular classics, leading to its restoration and subsequent Cannes premiere. In 2025, Carlotta brought Edward Yang's previously unreleased A Confucian Confusion and Mahjong to French theaters as part of a wider retrospective, followed by DVD and Blu-ray releases.
