Rafe Spall Says His Sherlock Holmes Is an Amnesiac in Sky Series
Rafe Spall told Deadline his take on Sherlock Holmes starts with a clean slate, as The Death of Sherlock Holmes heads to Sky Television next year.
Rafe Spall has described how he is approaching the lead role in the upcoming Sky Television series The Death of Sherlock Holmes, saying his version of the detective is an amnesiac. Spall made the comments in an interview with Deadline.
The series follows Holmes after his fall from Reichenbach Falls, rescued half-dead from an icy mountain stream in the Bernese Alps by a local woman named Alma. Spall plays Holmes opposite Deleila Piasko as Alma, with Thomas Kaschel as Dr. Watson, Christian Koerner as Mycroft Holmes and Timothy Innes as Edward Pembroke.
In the story, Holmes is drawn into a deadly conspiracy when Alma's son is accused of killing the town doctor. Claudia Bluemhuber, André Küttel and Pierre Monnard are the creators.
Six episodes on Sky next year
The Death of Sherlock Holmes is set to premiere on Sky Television next year with six episodes. The character was created by Arthur Conan Doyle.
In Doyle's novels, three years elapse between Holmes' fall from Reichenbach Falls and his return in The Adventure of the Empty House. Other recent takes on the character include Henry Cavill in Netflix's Enola Holmes films and Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the Young Sherlock TV series, while development reportedly continues on Sherlock Holmes 3, the follow-up to Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) that would feature Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role.
