Ready Player One Graphic Novel Gets Target-Exclusive Release

Ten Speed Graphic has unveiled an exclusive first look at Ready Player One: The Graphic Novel, sharing seven preview pages with Polygon. The adaptation of Ernest Cline's bestseller is written by Scott Peterson and illustrated by Meredith Laxton.
The graphic novel will launch exclusively at Target on Oct. 6, giving the retailer a window on the release before the book arrives at all other book retailers on March 2, 2027.
The preview marks the first extended look at how Peterson and Laxton are translating Cline's virtual-world epic into comics form, following the novel's original publication in 2011.
A story already adapted once
Steven Spielberg directed a film version of Ready Player One in 2018, co-writing the screenplay with Cline and Zak Penn. That adaptation took liberties with the source material, dropping a challenge inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons module Tomb of Horrors and swapping a section based on Blade Runner for one set inside The Shining.
The graphic novel now offers a new route through the story, with the Target-exclusive edition arriving first this fall.
