Resident Evil Leads China Box Office Again as John Wick Opens Third

Resident Evil stayed on top of the mainland China box office for a fourth consecutive weekend, earning RMB28.5 million ($4.3 million) over the Oct. 30-Nov. 1 frame, according to Variety. The film has now grossed $71.3 million in China since launching on Oct. 5.

Traces of Justice held second place with $3.9 million in its fifth weekend, bringing its cumulative total to $98.5 million since its Oct. 1 release. The film is directed by Chen Sicheng, who co-wrote it with Zhang Ji and Yan Zijie, and stars Zhang Yi, Ma Li and Chen Minghao, with guest appearances from Karry Wang, Fan Chengcheng and Chen Feiyu.

John Wick entered the chart in third place with $2.3 million over its three-day debut weekend. The Keanu Reeves film had its global release in 2014, but it only reached Chinese cinemas this weekend.

Mr. & Mrs. Pardon placed fourth with $2 million, lifting its cumulative gross to $59 million. The film is directed, written by and starring Shen Chunyang, with Ma Duo credited as co-writer and Xiao Shenyang, Jia Bing and Yu Yang among the cast.

Once Upon a Time in the Middle East rounded out the top five with $900,000 in its twelfth weekend, for a total of $356.9 million since its Aug. 11 launch. Wen Muye directed, and the cast includes Shen Teng, Jiang Qiming, Aarif Rahman and Omar Sherif.

Mainland China's overall weekend box office came to $18.2 million. The 2026 year-to-date China box office stands at $4.73 billion, down 29.0% year on year.
