Rings of Power Season 3 Jumps Five Years, Adds Orc Marnukh

Co-showrunner Patrick McKay says the new season is a soft reboot, with Sauron forging the One Ring while a defecting Orc reveals his plan to the Elves.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns to Prime Video on November 11, with the first four episodes of Season 3 debuting that day and the remaining episodes arriving on November 18 and 25. Co-showrunner Patrick McKay revealed the season's plot details, including a five-year time jump from the events of Season 2, according to comingsoon.net.

McKay described the new season as a soft reboot and a fresh starting point for the series. Season 3 opens with Sauron's armies having conquered much of Middle-earth; Khazad-dum, Lindon and Rivendell remain as holdouts.

Sauron, working in his completed tower of Barad-dur, sets out to forge the One Ring. A new Orc character named Marnukh defects from Sauron's army and reveals the plan to make the One Ring to the Elves.

The dynamic between Marnukh, Galadriel and Arondir forms a central storyline for the season.

Production context

In earlier seasons, Galadriel had an experience with Adar. McKay has also said that filming Seasons 1 and 2 back-to-back strained the production.
