The new season is set five years after the fall of Eregion, with Sauron's armies conquering much of Middle-earth. Khazad-dûm, Lindon and Rivendell are left as the remaining strongholds against him.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay return as showrunners. Charlotte Brändström is back as executive producer and director.
