Rings of Power Showrunners Confirm More Time Jumps Ahead
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay say future seasons will keep leaping forward in time as season 3 arrives on Prime Video on November 11 with four episodes.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the co-showrunners of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, say future seasons of the series will likely include further time jumps, according to gamesradar.com. The pair also confirmed that season 3 premieres on Prime Video on November 11 with a four-episode drop.
McKay said the show aimed from the start to compress the timeline of the books and to include significant leaps forward, so that characters can age and kingdoms can rise or fall.
Season 3 begins five years after the previous season, opening amid a battle between Sauron and the Elves. In the earlier seasons, Barad-dûr and Rivendell had already been built, and Galadriel and Arondir had become friends and comrades.
The show was originally pitched to run for five seasons. Rumors of work starting on a fourth season circulated last year, but Amazon Studios has not confirmed it.
