Rocky 50th Anniversary Sets 4K Re-Release in 3,000+ Theaters

Amazon MGM Studios has announced a 50th-anniversary celebration for Rocky, headlined by a 4K theatrical re-release in more than 3,000 theaters nationwide from November 7 to 11 through Fathom Entertainment, according to collider.com. The run will include an exclusive first-look scene from I Play Rocky.

The anniversary program opens earlier in New York: a Rocky in Concert event is set for November 5 at Brooklyn's Kings Theatre, with Sylvester Stallone and composer Bill Conti attending. Peter Farrelly and Anthony Ippolito will join them before a live orchestra performs Conti's score alongside a screening of the film.

Philadelphia celebrations

In Philadelphia, a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest gathering of people dressed as Rocky Balboa is planned for November 13 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps. The Rocky statue will be permanently installed at the top of those steps, with a rededication ceremony the same day. Other events include a Philadelphia 76ers tribute on November 2, the Rocky Run on November 14 and a free screening at Los Angeles' Saban Theatre on November 16.

Amazon MGM Studios has also launched a digital exhibition on Prime Video featuring behind-the-scenes footage, cast retrospectives and a franchise timeline.

I Play Rocky stars Anthony Ippolito as a young Stallone alongside AnnaSophia Robb, Stephan James, Kiki Seto, P.J. Byrne, Jay Duplass, Matt Dillon and Tracy Letts. Rocky won Best Picture in 1977, a year after its original release introduced the character of Rocky Balboa.
