Rod Roddenberry Says Star Trek Will Return, Paramount Execs 'Understand' Franchise

Rod Roddenberry said at the Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame that Star Trek will definitely come back and that Paramount executives know how important the franchise is.

Rod Roddenberry, CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment, said the Star Trek franchise will definitely return to screens, though he does not yet know how. He spoke at the Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame, according to screenrant.com.

Roddenberry said executives at the new Paramount understand how important Star Trek is and do not want to mess it up. He also pointed to Chris Parnell, executive vice president of Paramount+ Originals, as a Star Trek fan who champions the franchise.

His comments come amid a broader corporate reshaping. Paramount CEO David Ellison announced that Paramount, Paramount+, Warner Brothers, and numerous subsidiaries will all fall under the umbrella of Skydance. In that restructuring, Cindy Holland, Paramount chair of direct-to-consumer, exited the company, while HBO Chairman Casey Bloys will take over Paramount+ as well as run HBO Max.

On the programming side, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds will premiere their final seasons in 2027. Star Trek also received the Franchise of the Year award at the Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame.
