Shin Kaiju Sosenkyo Names Top Four Advancing to Second Phase

Xenolf leads with 46,066 votes as Toho's new-kaiju contest moves four of eight monsters into a second round of public voting.

The first-phase voting results of "TOHO presents Shin Kaiju Sosenkyo," a project to create new kaiju to stand alongside Godzilla, were announced on October 16. Four of the eight competing kaiju advanced to the second-phase final battle, according to cinematoday.jp.

Xenolf topped the first phase with 46,066 votes, followed by Sagius with 34,202, Gilks with 28,724 and Rigedo with 18,846. The first phase drew roughly 170,000 votes from Japan and around the world.

General voting for the second phase opened at midnight on October 17 and runs until October 25 at 23:59. Each person may cast one vote per day, and the vote counts for the four finalists were reset, putting them on equal footing.

The kaiju that finishes first will be announced at "Godzilla Fest 2026" on November 3. The winning kaiju will then appear in a new tokusatsu production, "Fes Godzilla," at a "Godzilla Fest" held in 2027 or later.
