Shrinking Season 4 to Jump Two Years With 12 Episodes
Bill Lawrence says the Apple TV comedy will tell a different story in Season 4 after Season 3 closed the show's original three-season arc.
Shrinking Season 4 will move its story forward by two years from the events of the Season 3 finale, according to Collider. The new season will consist of 12 episodes, the same episode count as Season 2.
Creator and showrunner Bill Lawrence said the season will tell a completely different story rather than continuing the show's earlier arcs about grief and forgiveness, per Collider.
The series stars Jason Segel as Jimmy and Harrison Ford as Paul. The cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Sofi, Lukita Maxwell as Alice, Jessica Williams as Gaby and Michael Urie as Brian.
Shrinking was initially pitched as a three-season series with a beginning, middle and end for its characters' storylines. In April 2026, Lawrence told The Hollywood Reporter that Season 3 was the ending of the three-season story they pitched.
Season 1 dealt with grief, Season 2 with forgiveness and Season 3 with moving forward, according to Lawrence. The Season 3 finale wrapped most plotlines, including Jimmy's date with Sofi, Paul's retirement and move to Connecticut, and Alice heading to Wesleyan University. The show, which streams on Apple TV, earned a Season 4 renewal.
