Duffield: Siren Head Film Script Still Not Started
Brian Duffield says he and Zach Cregger haven't begun scripting the Siren Head film, and Cregger's take on the creature is unexpected.
Brian Duffield said at New York Comic Con that he and Zach Cregger have not yet started work on the script for their in-development Siren Head film, according to polygon.com. Duffield, who was at the convention promoting Whalefall, said he owes Cregger a phone call about the project and that "we need to get into it."
Duffield said Cregger brought the Siren Head project to him a couple of months ago. He added that Cregger's idea for the film is not what people are expecting. Duffield also said he has been asking Siren Head creator Trevor Henderson questions about what the creature can and cannot do, and sharing ideas with him.
Duffield plans to dive into the Siren Head project after finishing Whalefall's press tour.
Background
In July, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Siren Head will be adapted into a film by Cregger and Duffield, who are writing it together, with Duffield likely to direct. A bidding war for the film rights ended with Warner Bros. Pictures coming out on top. Siren Head was created by creature designer Trevor Henderson and began as a cryptid drawing that spawned fan animations and lore.
Earlier this year, Backrooms was adapted into a film by YouTuber Kane Parsons for $10 million and made over $400 million by the end of its theatrical run.
Cregger has been busy with Resident Evil and his upcoming sci-fi thriller The Flood, starring Jennifer Lawrence. Whalefall arrives in theaters on Oct. 16, and Resident Evil is currently playing.
